Working from home is becoming a more popular option for many people in to-day’s workforce. Not everyone is able to set up their ideal home office and some of us have to settle for a corner in the kitchen, a guest room which doubles as the office, a section of your bedroom or a location in your basement. A clean organized desk and home office can save time, stress and even money if we work from home. So if you are feeling overwhelmed by your messy desk and disorganized office it’s time to declutter. Deal with your mail on a daily basis, discard what you can either in bin or shredder and file the rest away properly. This might be the time to update your filing system and make folders for current years or months. Another culprit of office clutter is computer storage media such as CD’s, DVD’s and floppy discs. Properly label these items and place in protective files for easy access. If you spend a lot of time in your office and it is also used by other family members the desk can easily become cluttered with mugs, glasses etc. If you have the space in your office it would be a good move to designate an area for food consumption. This would eliminate some desk clutter and any possible damage to computers etc. due to spillages. Office supplies have a way of easily cluttering up our workspace as well. Make sure these supplies have a home other than on top of your desk.
Place your desk in the command position, with you sitting facing the doorway and a wall behind you for support. Place an earth element such as a nature picture on this wall. If you are unable to place your desk in the preferred command position use a mirror to provide a reflected view of the door. Wherever you sit, make sure that you look at something inspiring: a photograph of your spouse and kids, a brochure for that long awaited holiday or something else you find inspiring. Try to avoid sitting with your back to the doorway.
Place a picture of a lake, waterfall or any other water scene on one of the walls on the eastern side of your home office. This represents the flow of energy. You can also use a table fountain or even an aquarium. Black and blue fish absorb negative energy. Water also promotes good health. A green smooth leafed plant can be placed in this area. Plants also act as air purifiers. Bamboo and money trees are popular choices. Here are some other items you can also place in that corner:
1. A red envelope containing several coins.
2. A crystal on a red ribbon near the window.
3. Three Chinese coins tied with red ribbon.
4. A wheel or ball.
5. A symbol or picture of a red fish.
6. Also, consider placing a decorative jar filled with water near the entrance to your home office.
As much as possible, hide cables and cords. Their presence represents and creates chaos.
If your office has small, high windows or no view at all, use posters of landscapes with a far horizon to create the illusion of being able to see into the distance. If the view from your work from home office window is unattractive use blinds or curtains that will block out the view but allow light to enter.
If you are going to work from home, make sure you invest in furnishings that make it comfortable and easy for you to focus on business. Never buy secondhand furniture from a business that has failed as it will carry terrible predecessor chi. On the other hand furniture from a business that was successful would carry positive chi. In general a large desk provides energetic room for expansive thinking and growth. However, too much other large furniture in a too small room stops chi cold, and you may find there is no new business coming in. A good desk chair can be adjusted to the height that suits you, make sure it is stable and provides good back and arm support. Your chair represents your foundation and support.
Feng Shui claims to make you aware of the effect that your environment has on your state of mind. Even if you are not a believer please admit that an uncluttered home office enhanced by feng shui, with room to move around and an inspiring décor, is much better than a cluttered room and messy work area with a desk piled high with papers etc.
With some forethought, planning and discipline, your work from home office can become and stay productive, efficient and serene.

USING A PRESS RELEASE TO PROMOTE YOUR HOME BASED BUSINESS
Publicity for your product or service is the secret to your home business success. In simple terms, product publicity is advertising that costs you nothing, yet brings in the orders for you.
Regardless of what kind of business you are operating, you should strive for as much publicity for your home based business as possible, including your products or services. After all, its "free advertising" that is essential to the growth of your home business. However, your publicity efforts should be well
thought out, and pre-planned for maximum results.
Another basic form of obtaining publicity is through what is known as the press or news release. This is generally a one page story about your business, your product/service, or an event/happening related to your home business that is about to, or has recently occurred.
The word "Press Release" seems to scare most people to death. On top of that not many people take the time to even think of writing their own Press Release. We hope this brief article will help clear up some of the mysteries surrounding this simple form of marketing.
Problem number one is getting the people to whom you've sent these publicity stories, to submit them. This leads us back to the "right way” of writing and presenting them.
Now you need the actual publicity release, which also must be "properly" written, if you expect it to be used by the media. There is a proper form or style to use, plus the fact that it must be typed, double-spaced, and short - about a half page in total length.
Type in capital letters, PRESS RELEASE. Immediately following the colon, but not in all capital letters, put in the date. Skip a couple of spaces, then in all capital letters – centered between the margins - type a story headline, and underline it. Skip a couple of spaces, and from the left hand margin, all in capital letters, type the words, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: From there on, it's the news or publicity story itself.
You can then write the headline, followed by a story to fit the headline Suffice it to say that your headline, and the story you present to the editor, must sell him on the benefits of your product or service to his readers. Unless it specifically does this, he will not use it. You must sell the first person receiving your materials. Keep this fact uppermost in your mind as you write it. The person you send your press or publicity release to, must quickly see and understand how your product or service will benefit his readers, and he must be assured it will do what you promise in your headline.
Come right to the point and say your product is lower in price, more convenient to use, or in what way your product or service is useful to the people in general. They want only "a flag" that alerts them
to something new and of probable real interest to their viewers. Sell the editor first. Convince him that you've found the better mousetrap. Show him that your product or service, fills a need and/or will interest a large segment of his viewers.
If your first effort is not used, then you should review the story itself; perhaps write it from a different angle - and try again! Your material has to stand out, and in some way, fit with the information they -
the editors - want to pass along to their viewers. Regardless of your business, product, or service,
you must write your press release around that particular angle or feature, that makes it beneficial or interesting to the viewer of the media you want to run your press release. Without this special ingredient, you're lost before you begin!
IN SUMMARY
Be sure your press release is letter perfect - no typo's or misspelled words.
